Competition Program

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

From over 800 entries, the selection committee, which is composed of poetry and film experts, has nominated 42 short films (all under ten minutes long) for the International Competition of the 2nd ZEBRA Poetry Film Award. Among the participating films, which were all produced within the last four years, are a large number of animation films, most of which were produced in Europe. Alongside a few feature and documentary films, it is above all the experimental film which has again established its firm place in the 2nd ZEBRA Poetry Film Award.

Short films from seventeen countries compete, in three competition programmes, for the 2nd ZEBRA Poetry Film Award, which is endowed with a total of €10,000 in prize money.

It is not only technical forms which differentiate the films; they also, in terms of content, span the whole spectrum of filmic discussion: tragedy and comedy, drama and meditation, illusion and reality, amusement and politics take turns in three colourfully assorted, stimulating and entertaining short film programmes.

Only one common ground can be asserted with certainty: all films are concerned, in terms of content, aesthetic or form, with one or more poems. All films are poetry films.

On Saturday 3rd July 2004 it is then finally time: during the celebratory prize ceremony, at 19.00hrs in kino arsenal, the international jury will present the three main prizes of the 2nd ZEBRA Poetry Film Award.
